A conference

Every year a great number of conferences and symposiums are held all over the world. They take place at different levels: from in-house/national to the international ones. A conference is an important event in a researcher's life, particularly an international one.

The aim of each scientific conference is to present and discuss scientific achievements (developments).

The scientific program usually consists of plenary, special lectures, panel discussions, workshops, separate sessions for free presentations and poster sessions.

Experimental and research studies on the topic are usually accepted. Usually 15 minutes are given for each presentation. The speakers are provided with technical aids, for instance, with a slide projector (over head projector).

In addition to a scientific program, special interesting social program is planned for the participants of the conference. This program includes luncheons, brunches, buffets, cocktail parties, dinners, a farewell party and a city tour. The working language of the international conference is usually English. Very often simultaneous translation into this language is provided during sessions.

The scientific conference is usually an exciting occasion (event) for all participants. The major goal of the conference is to exchange the information and data. The conference is convened to present, review and discuss the rapidly expanding knowledge in different fields of science. The conference provides an opportunity to draw up guidelines and recommendations for the professional development of many practitioners.

The conference begins with a plenary session where the leading world authorities present their views. The workshops usually deal with the specific knowledge and problems on more limited topics, aided by posters on which the experimental results are presented in detail.

The conference Organization Committee usually presents; a diverse social program so that the guests spend their time in the best way possible and have opportunities to see the place where the conference is held.

It is run under the auspices [o:spis] of University and sponsored by the Royal Society.

The reports delivered at the conference are usually printed as the Scientific Proceedings. But first of all one has to send a short abstract of 200 words to the Program Committee to be accepted.

When a scholar enters the conference hall and sees that most of the participants are already sitting with the printed programmes in front of them. The chairman – Professor Hall, a very prominent scholar and a Nobel Prize Winner – stands up to address the conference.
