Today Syktyvkar University has about 7000 students studying at 6 institutes, 5 faculties and the college of Economics, Law and Information technologies. There are institutes of Humanities, Sciences, Social technics, exact sciences and information technologies, Pedagogics, additional professional education. There are faculties of Arts, Management, Economics, Law, parallel education and externship.
They are training specialists in Sciences, finance and credits, book-keeping, history, Russian language and literature, Komi language and literature, marketing, tourism, taxes and taxation, ecology, etc. Such a choice of subjects meets the needs of the Republic. The first lecture delivered to the freshmen students used to be dedicated to the development of the Komi republic and to that of the Far North. From their first day at the University our students come to realise that in five years they will have to apply their knowledge for the benefit of the Republic.
At present, the University campus consists of seven academic buildings and three blocks of student residence. There are a lot of lecture-rooms, studies and laboratories, computer centres, libraries, assembly halls, gyms, a swimming-pool, a café and three canteens.
The highest ruling body is the University Academic Board considering all the principal questions of the university life. Its meetings take place every month. The Academic Board consists of the Rector, Vice-Rectors, and Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments and representatives of Trade Union.
