Paul Newman, an American actor, won fame for his action roles and convincing characters in motion pictures. He portrayed outsiders or rebels in many of his films. Newman won 1968 Academy Award as the best actor for his performance in “The Colour of Money”.

Newman was born in Cleveland and studied acting at Kenyon College (Yale University), and at Actors Studio. He made his Broadway debut in “Picnic” (1953) after appearing in several television dramas. Then he became more popular due to a number of movies, the most remarkable of which are: “Somebody up There Likes Me”(1957), “Harper”(1966), “Cool Hand Luke”(1967), “Sundance Kid”(1969), Absence of Malice”(1981), “The Verdict”(1982), “Mr. and Mrs. Bridge”(1990). He also starred on Broadway in “Sweet Bird of Youth” (1959). Paul Newman wasn’t only a talented actor, but he also decided to try his hand as a film director. The actor directed several films, among which his “Rachel, Rachel” (1968) is worth mentioning.

Newman’s brilliant performing and talent won popularity and made him one of the audience’s favourite actor.
