Technology is the basis of our modern life. It’s impossible to imagine a modern world without technologies. But we may use it for good or bad.
The most important inventions are in medicine. I’m sure that disabled people nowadays have more efficient, comfortable devices. Doctors have modern equipment end pills to cure diseases.
I’d like to mention progress in the internet technology. It has changed the way we live: do the shopping, communicate, express ourselves and get information. Traditional media is dying. Nowadays, people can read the news, listen to the radio and watch TV right from their computers. People also create their own product.
We have a lot of small inventions in everyday use and we don’t even think of them.
Though very often we suffer from our technological advances. For example, people who live in big cities suffer from exhaust fumes of cars. Tankers with oil often crash in the sea and destroy life in some regions. Technological problems cause ecological problems. That’s, I think, because we use technology without thinking. I guess it’s the problem of our society. And if I cannot change it, I would prefer to live in the world without any technologies.

The British Isles consist of two large islands, Great Britain and Ireland, and more than 5,000 smaller islands.
The British Isles are divided into two independent states: the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland (the Irish Republic).
Britain or Great Britain is England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland also belongs to Great Britain.
The Republic of Ireland is southern Ireland. It is independent and has its own government.
London is the capital of the United Kingdom or Britain.
Great Britain can be divided into two parts: lowland Britain and highland Britain. Lowland Britain is in the south-east and highland Britain is in the north-west. The Highlands of Scotland are the highest mountains in the British Isles. Lowland Britain is a rich plain.
British rivers are not very long but they are deep. Big ships can enter ports at some distance from the coast. In the south of England the Thames (336 km.) is navigable for big ships as far as the city of London.
Lakes are found in the Lake District in England and in the Highlands of Scotland, where they are called lochs. Loch Ness, which is one of the largest lakes in Scotland, is famous for the "Loch Ness monster". In Great Britain there are about 4,000 km. of navigable canals.
Woods make up only about 8 per cent of the territory of Britain. At one time oak forests covered the greater part of lowland Britain, but there are only a few oak forests left.
Britain is very rich in coal. Natural gas and oil have been discovered in the British sector of the North Sea.
Britain has mild winters, not very hot summers and a lot of rain all the year round. The mild climate is due to the warm Gulf Stream flowing from the Gulf of Mexico to western Europe. The population of the United Kingdom is more than 59 million. About 20 per cent of the British people are rural dwellers, but only 10 per cent really live in the country. About 40 per cent of the British people live in urban areas, whose centres are the cities of London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Bradford .

Computers sometimes affect our lives more than we realize. What our life will be in future if we stop using computers?
I suppose, in some respect life will change for the better because we will spend more time to communicate with each other in real life. we will go and visit friends and relatives more often, we will feel, move and walk. children won’t sit and play computer games. They will go outside into fresh air, play outdoor games with real friends.
On the other hand our life will be worse without computers. It will not be easy to communicate with friends if they live far away. Letters will come in many days. the news won’t be fresh any more. Our world depends on information. Computers help us to share and to find it.
So, to my mind, we couldn’t live without computers now but we can try to control it and try to eliminate its negative effects.

In the ninth form we had our English lessons 5 times a week and I always looked forward to them. Of course, sometimes we had to do some difficult tasks. As for me, I didn’t enjoy doing grammar exercises, learning large texts by heart or write compositions. But other activities were quite exciting. We played speaking and word games, did quizzes, worked with interactive MultiRom.
Our teacher often gave us some topics for discussion. I liked group discussions most of all.
We learned a lot about English speaking countries, their culture, food, traditions , way of life. I remember interesting videos about Great Britain, the USA and Canada.
It’s also necessary to tell about our English teacher. To my mind, a pupil’s feelings of the subject depends very much on the teacher. I’m interested in English and I really respect my teacher. She knows her subject perfectly, but her main secret is kind and respectful attitude to her pupils. Sure, she’s very strict, because she made us work a lot!
I guess English is very useful and interesting subject!

I take care of my health and try to have a healthy way of living. I eat healthy food-less sweets and more fruit and vegetables. I also walk in the fresh air. And it goes without saying that sport takes an important place in my life.
I decided to go to the new gym that has opened not far from my house .It’s a sport center of our town. It is modern and comfortable. Good coaches help to train muscles. There is a modern equipment in our gym. I want to have a strong and beautiful body. I think it’s very important for young modern people. I also like to move and do exercises when music is playing in the gym. It helps me feel well.
There is also a swimming pool in the gym. Once a week I go swimming there. It strengthens my back, legs and arms. It also makes a good posture.
I have to pay for the visits but not much. It is worth. And I advice all my friends follow my example.

A lot of people all over the world buy cars. Cars are becoming cheaper and safer. I guess it’s not bad kind of transport.
Though there are both advantages and disadvantages of travelling by car.
Travelling by car can be good for people who like driving and want to be independent from any travel guides. You can change your travelling plans any moment. You can stop when and where you want.
In the car you can get any place in the town quite quickly. You don’t have to wait public transport.
But travelling by car can be really dangerous. There are so many car accidents nowadays.Using a car is very expensive. If you have a car you have to pay for petrol and services.
As for me, I guess it’s very important that cars cause pollution. I prefer to walk, ride a bike or travel by other means of transport.

Ukrainian people celebrate a lot of holidays. But there are some of them that are the most important for us. These holidays are: Independence Day and Victory Day.
I’m sure that the war is the worst thing people can suffer. 67 years have passed since the glorious victory of our people. But we still remember it. We don’t even know what it is when people, nations are killed. We don’t know hunger and cold. I think we should say ‘Thank you’ to those who got the Peace for us.
On the holiday I always visit the Monument to the unknown soldier, museum. I always bring flowers to the heroes of that war.
I’m sure we should do our best to protect our world from war.

To my mind, living in the city has a lot of advantages. First of all, everything is at hand. There are shops and supermarkets where you can get whatever you want at any time. For example, my friends and I often go to the local leisure center to dance or to play billiards. at weekends you can go anywhere. Nightlife is much more interesting here than in the country. You can go to nightclubs, bars discos, cinemas. There are also a lot of museums, galleries in the city.
Though some people say that cities are too noisy and polluted but I can’t imagine my life without the city. Of course there are some disadvantages. Our cities are too overcrowded. Sometimes it takes hours to get to the necessary place. There are a lot of traffic jams. That's why people can be aggressive. As a result the crime rate is quite high. And cost of living is very high in the city.
So, as you can see, living in the city has its advantages and disadvantages as well as living in the country.
