GRAMMAR EXPLANATION

Present Continuous

We use this tense for describing temporary actions and situations which are happening now or over a longer period of time. Besides we use it for describing pictures and people.

Positive sentences:

I am buying some food.

You/we/they are buying some food.

He/she is buying some food.

Negative sentences:

I’ m not buying food.

You/we/they aren’t buying food.

He/she isn’t buying food.

Questions:

Am I buying it?

Are you/we/they buying it?

Is he/she buying it?

What are you buying?

You can distinguish Present Simple and Continuous by words-markers.

Present Simple: always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, hardly ever, never, once a month, etc.

Present Continuous: now, at the moment, at present, from…till…

Some verbs do not usually have continuous form:

Thinking: think, believe, know, understand, remember.

Possession: have, belong, own.

Senses: feel, smell, taste, sound.

Wants and likes: want, like, love, hate,

need, prefer, wish.

For how things look and seem: look, seem.

Others: matter, depend
