SAN FRANCISCO
San Francisco is the financial center of the West, and the largest port on the Pacific coast is America's most international city speaking in more than 30 languages. San Francisco called "the Paris of the West", and "Gateway to the Orient". It is hometown of the famous American author Jack London.
San Francisco is situated on a peninsula between Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay on d seven hills connected by cable cars. Its area is 45 sq.ml. The population is over 715,000.
There are two Bay Bridges built in the 1930s. The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge built 1936 is over 14 km long. The Golden Bay Bridge built in 1937 is shorter /1280 ml but more impressive
San Francisco is famous for its historic cable car, Chinatown-the country's largest- with its Ork tal architecture, tearooms and temples; Little Italy, with its pizzerias, and Japantown. Telegraph Hill which signelad arival of ships, and Nob Hill, once a home of millionaires. Also of interest are: Fisherman's, Wharf
Golden Gate Park, with its planetarium, museum of natural history, aquarium and flower gardens; Presidio, majoir installation; mission Dolores, the Veterans War Memorial Building
The Cow Palace is the home of political conventions, sports events, and livestock exhibions
The Union Square is the commercial heart of the city.
CHICAGO
Chicago is the nation's second largest city, the most important Great Lakes port, and the world's largestrailroad terminal. The booming industry of the city attracted immigrants from all over the world.
Theskyscrapers were Chicago's contribution to American architecture. The first skyscraper, designed by William Jenney, was built here in 1883. The city's impressive skyline is still expending. Among the newest buildings
are the 50-storey Civic Center and Marina Towers Apartments. A 100-storey Hancock Center which opened in 1969, now ranks as the country's second tallest building.
Chicago is a leading producer of steel, telephone equipment, appliances, and electrical machinery. Landmarks of interest in the Chicago area include the Merchandise Mart, the largest commercial in the world; and the Water Tower, one of the 4 structures to survive 1871 fire.
LOS ANGELES
Los Angeles is the nation's third most populous city. In 1781, the town of Our Lady the Queen of the angels was founded. Later it was shortened to Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles area is rich in agricultural resources and well-known for its citrus fruit. It leads the USA in production of aircraft and aircraft parts. In addition, Greater Los Angeles is the nation's sportswear center
and the world's second largest garment manufacturer. Other important industries are food processing and production of machinery, chemicals, and electronic equipment.
Los Angeles has the heaviest per-capita concentration of automobiles in the world. Of interest to thousands of tourists who flock Los Angeles are Disneyland, considered the biggest attraction in the West,Mount Wilson Observatory; Griffith Park with its zoo, golf course, and observatory
