ПРЕДИСЛОВИЕ
Английский язык является неотъемлемой частью подго-товки специалистов экономического профиля, которые обяза-ны в соответствии с требованиями государственного образова-тельного стандарта достичь определенного уровня владения иностранным (английским) языком, позволяющего использо-вать его в своей профессиональной деятельности.
Учебное пособие ‘Reading in Finance’ предназначено для изучения дисциплины федерального компонента ГОС «Ино-странный язык (английский)». Оно адресовано студентам 1– 3 курсов очной и очно-заочной формы обучения экономиче-ского факультета.
Целью данного пособия является обучение практическо-му владению иностранным языком, а именно: формирование умений и навыков, позволяющих студенту эффективно осу-ществлять профессиональную деятельность в своей сфере: ра-ботать с зарубежной литературой по профилю (журнальные статьи и т. д.) и с документацией; общаться на иностранном языке в социально обусловленных сферах повседневной и профессиональной деятельности; выступать с докладом или сообщением и участвовать в дискуссии на иностранном языке; воспринимать на слух лекции, доклады и сообщения; уметь написать деловое письмо зарубежному ученому и выполнить устный/письменный перевод статьи профессионально направ-ленного характера.
Учебное пособие состоит из 11 разделов, тематика кото-рых определяется рабочей программой. Все тексты внутри каждого раздела объединены по тематическому признаку и расположены таким образом, чтобы тема была представлена с разных позиций. Упражнения после текстов включают разно-образные задания, в том числе вопросы на понимание текста, перевод с английского на русский и с русского на английский, выбор соответствий, подбор тематических слов и словосочета-ний, исправление неправильных вариантов, кроссворды и др.
Наличие текстов различной сложности позволяет диффе-ренцированно подходить к работе над пособием со студентами разной подготовки по английскому языку, предлагая им воз-можность выбрать определённые заинтересовавшие их тексты

с целью последующего их обсуждения и обмена прочитанной информацией в группе.
В основу структуры пособия положен принцип усложне-ния материала от простого к сложному.
Данный подход обусловлен тем, что работа со студента-ми 1 курса очной и очно-заочной формы обучения предполага-ет коррекционный курс для студентов с недостаточным уров-нем подготовки по английскому языку в соответствии с совре-менными требованиями Государственного Образовательного Стандарта.
Таким образом, данное пособие призвано способствовать приобретению студентами экономического факультета комму-никативной компетенции, уровень которой на отдельных эта-пах языковой подготовки позволяет использовать иностранный язык практически как в профессиональной (производственной и научной) деятельности, так и для целей дальнейшего самооб-разования.

I work for a large European car maker. I work on car de-sign. In fact, I run the design department and I manage a team of designers: 20 people work under me. It’s very interesting. One of my responsibilities is to make sure that new model designs are fin-ished on time. I’m also in charge of design budgets.
