McNish completes toyota line-up

Allan McNish will drive for the Panasonic Toyota Racing team in their debut Formula One season next year. The 31-year-old Scot, who has been the team`s test driver since March, has been confirmed as driver alongside Finland`s Mika Salo. A delighted McNish said: `I have been deeply involved with the team in the development of the Toyota F1 car from the very beginning of the project. In the process, my ability as an F1 driver was recognized and I am very happy to have been officially chosen as a driver for the coming season. This feels me with confidence that I can accomplish the difficult tasks ahead`. `There is a mountain of things we must do before our first race next year, and I intend to fully devote myself to bringing out my very best`, he added. Toyota`s managing director Tsutomu Tomita told reporters he was excited by the team that had been assembled. `As our team has yet to participate in active F1 competition, there are numerous challenges that we must face down the road`, Tomita said, `Allan McNish is fast and is gifted with exceptional development potential. As such, we have concluded that combining Mika and Allan in our first year would be the best way to go`. The 17-leg series will start with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March, 3, next year.

Lara fit for sri lanka

West Indies batsman Brian Lara has been passed fit to play in the forthcoming tour of Sri Lanka. Lara had been suffering from a hamstring injury but after having MRI scan, he has been given the go-ahead for next month`s tour. `Having looked at the results, the doctors are satisfied`, said West Indies team manager Ricky Skerritt. `The last three days Brian has been training rather actively without any side effects`, he added. Lara first strained his right hamstring last year when the West Indies toured England. He went on to play in subsequent series against Australia and South Africa but the injury continued to trouble him and he withdrew from the recent tour of Kenya and Zimbabwe. The West Indies have been training in Kingston`s Sabina Park for the Sri Lankan tour, which begins on November, 4. The itinerary includes three Tests against Sri Lanka and a triangular series of one-day internationals also involving Zimbabwe.
