It’s interesting to know:

London Cinemas and Television

Londoners, like other Englishmen, are fond of television. There are two state TV programs and one commercial TV program in London. The state TV programs are produced by BBC (British Broadcast Corporation). The commercial program is financed mainly from advertisements.

It is interesting to know that the first regular programs were shown on TV in London in 1936.

Today televiewers can watch news, sport programs, educational programs, and interviews with prominent people, musical programs and many others. Films are shown on TV too, but usually they are old. Some of the films are made specially for television, for example, so-called soap operas.

As for London cinemas they demonstrate all sorts of films: comedies, musicals, thrillers, historical and war films. The first performance begins about two o’clock in the afternoon and the show goes on from then until about half past ten. You can go and leave the hall at any time.

Though the prices of cinema seats are lower than the prices in theaters, nowadays people prefer to stay at home and watch TV, especially in cold and rainy weather.
