A visit to a doctor

Nowadays an army of doctors is ready to help us to get over any illness. Each of them is a specialist in his own field and you know which of them you need from the symptoms of your disease. We know a lot of doctors: a therapeutist, a neuropathologist, a dentist, a surgeon, a pediatrian and others.

If you have problems with your health and want to recover quickly and to avoid all complications you must timely consult the doctor and follow all his instructions.

Not long ago I got an infection from my friend who was ill with flu. I felt terrible and had to consult the therapeutist. He listened attentively to my complaints. I explained him that I had a cold in my head and a sore throat. I was constantly sneezing and coughing. I suffered from a severe headache.

The doctor took my temperature and asked me to show the tongue. After that he sounded my chest, felt my pulse and tested my blood pressure.

After all examinations the doctor wrote down a prescription. He advised me to keep to bed for at least two weeks. He prescribed me some tablets and drops.

I followed all his instructions very strictly and in some time I felt myself better.

Mrs. Robinson had one small son. His name was Billy, Mrs. Robinson loved him very much, and as he was not a strong child, she was afraid that he might get ill, so she used to take him to the best doctor in the town four times a year to be examined.

During one of these visits, the doctor gave Billy various tests and then said to him: “Have you had any trouble with your nose or ears recently?”

Billy thought for a second and then answered:” Yes, I have”.

Mrs. Robinson was very worried. “But I’m sure you have never told me that, Billy!” she said anxiously. “Oh, really?” said the doctor seriously. “And what trouble have you had with your nose or ears, boy?” “Well”, answered Billy, “I always have trouble with them when I’m taking my sweater off, because the neck is very tight”.

Cinema

Cinema plays an important role in the life of modern society. Nowadays the cinema is a part of our way of life.

Lots of people find going to the cinema as one of the best ways of spending their leisure time.

There are a lot of different kinds of films: feature films, popular science films, concert films, comedies, documentaries, animated cartoons.

We can watch films in the cinemas or on TV. People like to go to the cinema. Millions of people may see one film. Films may be about real life of people, about history or present life or fantasy. They may be sound or silent.

I am fond of cinema. I prefer to see colour pictures in the cinema. As usual, before the showing of the film they give a newsreel. It lasts for several minutes. Newsreels are of great interest.

The people who go to see films very often are called cinema-goers. I am one of them.
