To enlarge its vocabulary OE depended mainly on its ownresourses, not on borrowing. From proto Info- European the Germanic l-ges had inherited many ways of forming new words by the use of combounding. Thus OE adjectives could be formed from nouns with helf of –ig. –leas, -ful.
