1. Актуальність теми: полягає у засвоєнні медичних термінів англійською мовою, які стосуються навчання майбутнього лікаря, вмінні надавати інформацію з теми, використовуючи граматичні та лексичні аспекти даної тематики.

2. Конкретні цілі:

Вивчити лексико-фонетичний матеріал та словотворчий матеріал з теми «Абсцеси зубів та ясен», вміти читати та перекладати текст, вміти складати резюме до тексту англійською мовою та засвоїти послідовність її викладання з тим, щоб вміти складати речення, відповідати на запитання з теми та робити усне повідомлення.

3. Базові знання, вміння, навички, необхідні для вивчення теми

1. Попередні дисципліни: Анатомія людини, біологія, латинська мова та медична термінологія.	Правильне читання термінів запозичених з латинської мови. Знати основні поняття та терміни, що стосуються вивчаємої теми. Використовувати раніше отриману інформацію в контексті певної ситуації спілкування англійською мовою за зазначеною темою.
2. Наступні дисципліни: Терапія, пропедевтика внутрішніх хвороб.	Використовувати раніше отриману інформацію при подальшому засвоєнні навчального матеріалу з зазначених предметів.

DentalAbscesses

Anabscessis a localizedcollectionofpusin a cavityformedbythedisintegrationoftissue.

Abscessesareusuallycausedbyspecificmicroorganismsthatinvadethetissues, oftenbywayofsmallwoundsorbreaksintheskin. Anabscessis a naturaldefensemechanisminwhichthebodyattemptstolocalizeaninfectionand "walloff" themicroorganismssothattheycannotspreadthroughoutthebody.

Thereareatleastthreetypesofdentalabscessesthatresembleeachother.

A gumorgingivalabscessistheresultofinjuryto, orinfectionof, thesurfaceofthegumtissue.

Ifaninfectionmovesdeepintogumpockets, drainageofpusisblockedand a periodontalabscessresults.

A periapicalabscessrefersto a toothinwhichthepulpisinfected, usuallysecondarytotoothdecay.

Anabscessmayoccurwhenbacteriainvadesthedentalpulp (thenervesandbloodvesselsthatfillthecentralcavityofthetooth), causingthepulptodie. Thismostcommonlyhappensas a resultofdentalcaries, whichdestroythetooth'senamelanddentin, allowingbacteriatoreachthepulp.

Theabscessiscalledacuteorchronic, dependingonhowrapidlyitformsandhoweffectivelythebodydefendsitself.

Anacuteabscessischaracterizedbypain, swelling, andfever.

A chronicabscessmaybepainless, withthepatientcompletelyunawareofitspresenceevenasitcontinuestogrowinsidethejawbone.

SymptomsofDentalAbscesses. Painisgnawingandcontinuous. Theinvolvedtoothispainfulwhenpercussed (tapped), andoftentheteethcannotclosewithoutaddeddiscomfort. Hotfoodsmayincreasethepain. Localswellingandgingivalfistulasmaydevelopoppositetheapexofthetooth, especiallywithdeciduous (temporary) teeth. Drainageintothemouthcauses a bittertaste.

TreatmentofDentalAbscesses. Itisimportanttodeterminewhichtypeofabscessispresentsothattheappropriatetreatmentmayberendered. Inallthreetypesofabscesses, thepusmustbedrained. Antibioticsmaybeprescribedifsystemicsymptomssuchasfeverandswellinginthelymphglandsarepresent. Deepcleaningwillbeundertakenforgumpocket (periodontal) abscesses.
