2. Travelling and Going through Customs

There is no doubt that modern life is impossible without travelling. You can travel private or on business. In any case traveling is the best way of relaxation because you have a chance to visit a place where you have never been before. So you can go there by bus, by train, by car, by air or by sea. Everything depends on your taste and money.

Today people especially businessmen prefer to travel by air because it is more comfortable, more convenient and of course much quicker than any other means of transport.

So if you are going to travel by air for example abroad first of all you have to phone a booking-office and book a seat for a plane in advance. Then you pack your things and find information about the place you are going to. Besides you have to settle your business. On day of departure you arrive at the airport an hour before the plane takes off. At the airport you fill in a declaration. Here you have to mention those things which are liable to duty. Then you go to the registration zone. The clerk registers your ticket and your passport. The Customs official makes inspection of your things. If everything is O.K. you can visit duty-free shop or have a cup of tea or coffee at the bar.

You wait for an announcement to get on the plane. On the board of the plane the stewardess shows you your seat. As usual seats are very comfortable and you can enjoy the flight, reading a newspaper, sleeping or speaking to a new acquaintance.

Soon, the plane will land and arrive at its destination exactly on time.

3. At the Hotel

Today’s business life is impossible without business trips therefore without hotel service. According to their accommodations hotels are divided into categories. In general there are very expensive, not very expensive, middle class and cheap hotels.

Very expensive hotels are called de Luxe. To pay for luxurious suites here is possible only for oil magnates and other rich.

Ordinary businessmen prefer to stay at middle class hotels. Single rooms, twin rooms or suites, all with private baths are at their disposal.

In some countries breakfast is included into a hotel charge. Sometimes the charge per person may include breakfast, lunch and evening meal. Usually there is a restaurant, a bar at a hotel. Room service includes provision of soap, towels, bed-making and cleaning.

In some hotels especially in this country you can find such hotel services as an information desk, car parking space, exchange operation, dentist service, hairdressing saloon, sauna and others. But you must pay for these kinds of service extra.

You may pay for the hotel accommodation when you are checking in or on day of departure. Hotel accounts may be paid by cheques or credit cards or in cash.

One more thing you have to remember: rooms must be vacated by 11 a.m. on day of departure.

So, if you reserved a room at the hotel in advance you arrive at a hotel, greet a receptionist and introduce yourself. She checks your reservation, gives you a visitor’s book which you have to sign. Besides you have to fill in a hotel form. Then you choose the type of a room desired and specify type of breakfast which can be English or Continental. The room-clerk, gives you a key, says what floor your room is on. You thank her and go to your room.
