Для того, щоб вірно виконати завдання №1, потрібно засвоїти наступні розділи курсу англійської мови за рекомендованим підручником.

1. Іменник. Множина. Артикль та прийменник, як показники іменника. Визначення відмінків в англійській мові за допомогою прийменнків і закінчення - s. Іменник в функції означення та його переклад на українську мову.

2. Прикметник. Ступені порівняння прикметників. Конструкції типу the more………the less.

3. Числівник.

4. Займенники: особові, присвійні, зворотні,вказівні, питальні, неозначені.

5. Дієслово. Форма теперішнього (Present), минулого (Past) та майбутнього (Future) часу групи Indefinite активного стану дійсного способу. Відмінювання дієслова to be, to have, to do в Present, Past и Future Indefinite. Наказовий спосіб та його заперечна форма.

6. Просте поширене речення: прямий поря­док слів у розповідному та спонукальному реченнях у стверджувальній та заперечній формах; зворотній порядок слів питального речення. Конструкція there is (are).

1. The students attend lectures and seminars on the History of Ukraine.	Студенти відвідують лекції та семінари з історії України.
Lectures - множина іменника a lecture лекція.
2. Не lectures on political economy.	Він читає лекції з політичної економії.
Lectures- 3-е особа однина дієслова to lecture в Present Indefinite.

3. My brother's son is a student.	Син мого брата - студент.
В слові brother's - закінчення присвійного відмінка іменника в однині
4. My brothers' sons are students.	Сини моїх братів - студенти.
Слово brothers' - форма присвійного відмінку іменника а brother в множині.

I. Перепишіть наступне речення. Визначте, до якої частини мови належать слова, оформлені закінченням -s і яку функцію це закінчення виконує, тобто чи є воно:

а) показником 3-ої особи однини в Present Indefinite;

б) ознакою множини іменника;

в) показником присвійного відмінку іменника. Перекладіть речення на українську мову.

ІІ. Перепишіть наступні речення та перекладіть їх, звертаючи увагу на особливості перекладу означень, виражених іменником.

III. Перепишіть наступні речення, які містять різні форми порівняння, і перекладіть їх на українську мову:

IV. Перепишіть та письмово перекладіть речення українською мовою, звертаючи увагу на переклад неозначених та заперечених займенників.

V. Перепишіть наступні речення, визначте в них видочасові форми дієслова та вкажіть їх інфінітив; перекладіть речення українською мовою.

VI. Прочитайте і усно перекладіть на українську мову з 1-го по 8-й абзаци тексту. Перепишіть та письмово перекладіть 1, 2, 3, 6 і 7-й абзаци.

LONDON

1. London is the capital of Great Britain. It lies in the South East of England on both banks of the river Thames. London is one of the largest cities in the world and the largest port and industrial town in England. London is more than twenty centuries old.

2. The heart of the capital is the City. The territory of the City is only about one square mile, but it is the financial and business center of the country. It contains almost all important English banks and offices.

3. The West End of London is famous for its beautiful monuments and palaces, fine parks, fashionable shops and big hotels. The East End is quite different from the West End; it is the district of factories, plants, and the docks. The main branches of industry are machine-building, shipbuilding, metal-processing, and others.

The narrow streets and poor houses of the East End present contrasts to the homes of the rich people in the West End.

4. There are many places of interest in London. One of them is Trafalgar Square with the Nelson's monument 185 feet high.

Buckingham Palace is the royal residence. Westminster Abbey is one of the most beautiful buildings in London. It contains the memorials of many famous citizens of Britain.

5. Across the road from Westminster Abbey are the Houses of Parliament, the seat of the British government. The clock tower towers over the Houses of Parliament. It con­tains "Big Ben" - one of the largest clocks in the world.

6. The Tower of London is one of the most interesting places in London. It was a fortress, a royal residence, a prison, now it is a museum. Not far from the Tower you can see the Tower Bridge one of the finest bridges in London.

7. London is famous for its green parks. Hyde Park is the most popular of them. It is the greatest park in London as well.

8. London is the center of the country's cultural life. There are many picture galleries and museums there. The National Gallery houses a priceless collection of paintings. The famous British Museum is one of the best museums in the world.

VII. Прочитайте 8-й абзац та питання до нього. З приведених варіантів відповіді вкажіть речення, яке містіть вірну відповідь на поставлене питання:

ODESSA

1. In the 15-th century we have the earliest written mention of the settlement and trading wharf Kachibey, the most direct antecedent settlement to Odessa. The name of the place has varied many a time: Kotsubeyev, Kachibey, Gadjibey, Adjibey.

The Sultan Turkey and its vassal, Crimean Khan, turned the most fertile region, the Northern Black Sea Coast, into devastated land. Kachibey was in ruins. Having captured foreign lands the Ottoman Empire wished to consolidate them. With this pur­pose the Turks fortified the Ochakov, Bendery, and Akkennan fortresses, built the new mighty fortress of Izmail and a number of smaller forts.

2. One of the last was erected in 1764 on the shore, just where the trees of the Primorsky Boulevard rustle with their leaves today. The fortress was surrounded by a wall with loop-holes and round towers. The part of the town where at present there is Suvorov street and the port itself has later been built on a man-made embankment.

The second half of the 17th century and the 18 th century were marked by victo­ries of the Russian and Ukrainian people in their joint efforts to liberate their land from the Tartar and Turkish invaders.

3. The Russian-Turkish War of 1787-1791 was the final stage of this struggle. The Russian army under the command of A. Suvorov won one victory after another. There are many legends about the name of the city.

4. However, the most truthful one is that the name of the town commemorates the ancient Greek colony Odessos which was situated in the 6-th century В.С. on the northern coast of the Black Sea (later Varna originated on the ruins of the real colony). In the 20-th century periods of peaceful construction in Odessa happened to be very short. The most brilliant feat that Odessa has performed was the one made in the years of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).

5. For the 73-day heroic defense the city was awarded the title of a Hero-city. Nowa­days Odessa is one of the largest cities of Ukraine. It is a political, industrial, scientific and cultural center.
