2.3 Medium engineering
The medium mechanical engineering gives 15 % of products of branch. The enterprises are notable for small metal consumption, labor input and production capital intensity. They are most numerous, highly tailored, have wide communications in cooperation. The enterprises which are letting out cars, planes, metal-cutting machines, tractors, processing equipment for the light, food, printing and medical industry belong to medium engineering.
Automobile industry is the branch of the medium industry which is carrying out production of motor transport, mainly with internal - combustion engines.
Besides, it includes subindustries:
Engine's construction;
Production of component parts (the major – tire production).
In 2008 Ukraine it was let out 403 thousand cars, and in 2009 - 65 thousand cars.
Plants are placed in Zaporizhzhia, Lutsk, Chernihiv, Lviv and Kharkiv.
In Ukraine release of motor cars is reduced. For last months of 2012 production fell almost to 24 % to about 61,5 thousand cars in comparison with the similar period of 2011. If to consider with buses and commercial cars, production fell to 22,4 % to 67,1 thousand cars. In October 6,5 thousand automobile cars descended from conveyors, it is less for 25,9 % , than in October, 2011, but for 14 % more than in September 2012.
In 2011 in Ukraine 97,5 thousand cars were let out.
The machine-tool industry of Ukraine contains 120 enterprises and organizations with a total number of workers of 55.2 thousand. Into structure of branch enters 21 designing research institute and design departments, many of which are the conducting scientific organizations in Ukraine today. The branch specializes on production of metal-cutting, grinding and woodworking machines, forge-and-press equipment, the foundry equipment.
Nowadays the machine-tool industry of Ukraine in total amount of production makes:
34.4 % - in production of the woodworking equipment;
28.4 % - metal-cutting machines;
26.7 % - forge-and-press equipment;
7 % - foundry machines.
Centers - Kharkiv, Kiev. Odessa, Cherkassy, Kramatorsk.
Those machines and the equipment which are made in Ukraine, in domestic market practically aren't demanded. Almost everything goes on export. The main sales market of the Ukrainian machine-tool construction – Russia and Belarussia. To break through on the western market with the Ukrainian machine-tool constructing production it is almost impossible. It isn't capable to compete to the western analogs. From all machine-tool constructing branch now in rather half-dead condition there are three plants: Kramatorsk plant of heavy machine-tool construction (KZTS), Kharkov machine-tool factory of a name of S. V. Kosior (JSC Harverst) and Odessa plant "Mikron".
Agricultural machinery industry produces various combines, tractors, stock-raising equipment. Centers - Ternopil, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv.
Following the results of 2009-2010 less combines, than in 2008 were sold almost in 3 times. But from the beginning of 2011 the situation started to change.
The 1st quarter brought growth of sale of combines in 64 %, the competition among leaders of the market became thus closer. For example, in 2010 the first place in a segment of combine harvesters was occupied by Claas (400 units), John Deer (330 pieces), New-Holland (180 units), Case (150 units), "Gomselmash" (126 pieces), Massey Ferguson (110 pieces) and "Rosselmash" (108 pieces). The Ukrainian producers put on the market about 100 more units of equipment.
The revenue of the enterprises of agricultural mechanical engineering of the country in January-August, 2011 grew by 120,5 % in comparison with the similar period of 2010. Thus 62 % of the made agricultural machinery and the equipment were exported that in a money equivalent made 2,8 billion UAH. ($350 million). The Ukrainian agricultural machinery is exported to such countries, as Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Bulgaria, Russia, Kazakhstan and Moldova.
