2.2 General engineering
The general mechanical engineering is presented by transport mechanical engineering (railway, shipbuilding, aviation, the space-rocket industry, but without automotive industry), agricultural, production of processing equipment for various industries.
Shipbuilding is the branch of the heavy industry which is carrying out construction of vessels. Building of the ships is made in Mykolaiv, Kherson and Kerch, repair of vessels is made in the same place. The shipbuilding of Ukraine endures decline because of insufficient sponsoring.

The aircraft industry in Ukraine is developed quite strongly, the Ukrainian plants in Kiev, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia produce passenger and military planes and helicopters. In 2009 9 planes were let out and in 2010 was made 10 more.

In general, during 2012-2015 Antonov Group plans to make 83 planes An-148 and An-158. In 2012 — 15 units, in the 2013th — 20 units and in 2014-2015 — on 24 planes. According to data of State concern, the need of the world market for An-158 planes is estimated at level of 240 units, and contracts for delivery of 20 planes in the Russian Federation are already concluded. There are also orders for delivery of 5 planes for domestic market of Ukraine, 6 planes — to Cuba, 12 — to Russia, 64 — to Iran. According to the experts, the need of the world market for An-148 planes makes about 300 units.
In a space-rocket complex there are 40 enterprises which develop and serially make space-rocket production of 20 directions of destination. The enterprises of space-rocket branch of Ukraine are able to create and serially make:
intercontinental ballistic missiles;
carrier rockets of different function;
spacecrafts of military and economic destination.
Plants which produce rockets in Ukraine are in Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv.
