Предисловие
Цель пособия “In the World of PR” – развитие навыков устной речи в сфере профессионального общения для студентов филологического факультета специальности «связь с общественностью». Пособие разработано в соответствии с программой Московского государственного лингвистического университета для курса иностранного языка в неязыковом ВУЗе(МГЛУ Программа курса иностранного языка для ВУЗов неязыковых специальностей (170-240 часов аудиторных занятий). М: МГЛУ, 2004)
Учебно-методическое пособие состоит из 8 разделов:
Nature of the work;
Recruitment;
Management;
Ethics. Corporate Culture;
Business across cultures;
Advertising. Brands;
Appendix 1 – Organizing a presentation;
Appendix 2 – Speech Patterns.
Каждый раздел содержит языковые упражнения, направленные на формирование лексического навыка и расширение словарного запаса, тексты для чтения и речевые упражнения, целью которых является развитие навыков устной речи. Речевая разминка (Warming up) в начале раздела служит для стимулирования речемыслительной деятельности студентов. На завершающем этапе освоения каждой темы студентам предлагается переводное упражнение на контроль сформированности лексического навыка (Check Zone) и проектное задание в виде докладов или презентаций, предполагающее последующее обсуждение (Time to talk). В качестве приложения предложены разделы, содержащие рекомендации по грамотному составлению и речевому оформлению презентаций и докладов и выражение собственного мнения, согласия или несогласия (Appendix 1, Appendix 2).
Каждый раздел является логически завершенным и позволяет работать с пособием в любой последовательности.

Warming-up
Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary gives the following definition of ‘public relations’: the business of giving the public information about a particular organization or person in order to create a good impression. It’s well known that every profession demands special personal characteristics. What’s your opinion about special characteristics of a PR –man?

Public relations cover many kinds of tasks. Public relations executives are highly articulate and imaginative individuals. Yet, public relations executive themselves stress judgement as the most important single qualification needed in their field. Other qualities needed by the public relations work include: imagination, for coping with present problems and anticipating future ones; communication skills, with demonstrable competence in writing; personal confidence, for successful face-to-face contacts with individuals and groups, sensitivity to other people; both diplomacy and a more than ordinary ability to place oneself in the shoes of another are important in public relations work, organizing and planning ability, applied to oneself and others; as with many other occupations, managerial skills are invaluable for successfully climbing the public relations ladder.
