Три основные модели

по которым чаще всего строятся сложные предложения в прошедшем времени.

I. PAST SIMPLE + PAST CONTINUOUS

В течение одного действия (Past Continuous) вклинивается другое действие

(Past Simple)

Например: * He came when we were watching TV.

* It was raining when I left the house.

* She was singing when they entered the room.

II. PAST PERFECT + PAST SIMPLE

Одно действие закончилось ( Past Perfect) до начала другого действия.

(Past Simple)

Например: * When we arrived to the station the train had already left.

* The road was blocked because a lorry had broken down.

* Nadia said she was very sorry for what she had done.

III. PAST SIMPLE + PAST SIMPLE + etc.

Перечисление действий в прошлом, цепь событий (фактов)

Например: * Margo came home, took a shower, had supper and went to bed.
