1. Прочитайте текст и выполните задания.

We are students now

I am an engineer. I am Russian. My name is Mr. Pavlov. My first name is Nick.

I am a student now. The Institute I am at trains engineers for many engineering fields. There are several faculties at our Institute. I study at the faculty of automatics and electronics. I want to become an electronics engineer. Many technical subjects are studied by our students.

1) Выпишите из текста интернациональные слова и переведите их на русский язык. Определите, какими частями речи они являются.

2) Найдите в тексте и запишите эквиваленты следующих русских слов и словосочетаний:

GEORGE STEPHENSON

George Stephenson was a British inventor and engineer. He is famous for building the first practical railway locomotive.

Stephenson was born in 1781 in England. During his youth he worked as a fireman and later as an engineer in the coal mines of Newcastle. He invented one of the first miner’s safety lamps independently of the British inventor Humphrey Davy. Stephenson’s early locomotives were used to carry loads in coal mines. In 1823 he established a factory at Newcastle for their manufacture. In 1829 he designed a locomotive known as the Rocket. He could carry both loads and passengers at a greater speed than any locomotive constructed at that time. The success of the Rocket was the beginning of the construction of locomotives and the laying of railway lines.

Richard is a naval architect. He works in a big shipping company in London.

His job is concerned with the building ships. He designs and supervises construction of ships. Ships must be safe, stable, strong and fast.
