VIII. Read the description of a language training market. Answer the
questions.
In Paris, 500 organizations offer language training to companies. However, 90 per cent of sales are made by the top five language training organizations. The market is not growing in size overall. Organization A has 35 per cent of the market, and faces stiff competition from B, which has about 25 per cent of the market, and from C,D and E, who each have 10 per cent, but who are trying to grow by charging (назначать цену) less for their courses.
How many competitors are there in this market?
Is competition in the market strong?
Who is the market leader?
Who are the two key players?
Who mainly makes up (составлять) the competition, from the market leader’s point of view?
If one competitor increases its market share, can the others keep their market
share at the same level?
Oral Task: Speak about advertising and marketing.
Recruiting people How Companies Fill Job Vacancies
The process of finding people for particular job is recruitment or hiring. Human resources departments or personnel departments deal with recruitment. Companies may hire employees directly or use employment agencies.
Many people looking for work read job vacancies advertised in newspapers by companies and employment agencies. To reply to an advertisement is to apply for a job and to become a candidate or an applicant. The candidate writes an application, or fills in the company’s application form, and sends it along with the curriculum vitae (CV) and the letter of application by email. It is necessary to give the names of two people who can write references. If the candidate’s qualifications, experience and abilities match the job description the person might be short-listed, that is selected to attend an interview.
