WATER
Read and translate the text using a dictionary:
Water is not only the largest single constituent of all living matter, both plant and animal, but also performs very important functions. Neither humans nor animals can live without it. The chemical formula of water is H2O. This means that its every molecule contains two atoms of hydrogen and one of oxygen. The most active parts of plants and animals contain 70 per cent or more of water. For example, green, growing plants usually have 70 to 80 per cent of water.
In animals the muscles and such internal organs as the liver and kidneys contain 75 per cent or more. The gray matter of the brain is even more watery, having over 80 per cent.
Water performs important functions in plants and animals. It carries the nutrients from one part of the living structure to another. Plants can absorb mineral nutrients from the soil when water dissolves them. Water reacts with many types of chemical compounds and the life processes cannot take place without it.
