Great Britain is a sport-loving nation. Many people, old and young, go in for sport. Some people do it for pleasure and relaxation, others make it a profession or business.

The most popular games in Great Britain are football in winter and cricket in summer. Among other open-air games are tennis, golf, basket-ball and volley-ball.

Various forms of athletics are very popular too, such as running, jumping, swimming and rowing.

Some people are fond of hunting and fishing.

In Great Britain one has practically no chance to go skiing, so those who can afford it go abroad for winter sports. They go to Norway or to Sweden, where winter is more severe and there is enough snow.

The most popular indoor games are chess, billiards and cards.

Indeed, sport plays an important part in the daily life of many English people.
