Порядковые числительные

Отвечают на вопрос какой? Обозначают порядок во времени. Перед ними всегда стоит определённый артикль the. Образуются с помощью окончания –th: the fourth - четвёртый, the tenth - десятый, the seventeenth - семнадцатый, the thirty-seventh – тридцать седьмой, the one hundredth – сотый.

Исключения:

• the first - первый

• the second - второй

• the third - третий

• the fifth - пятый

• the eighth - восьмой

• the ninth - девятый

• the twelfth - двенадцатый

• the twentieth – двадцатый (подобные изменения при присоединении окончания происходят во всех числительных, обозначающих десятки)

На письме возможно сокращение порядковых числительных до двух последних букв: the 1^st, the 18^th, the 23^rd, the 156^th.
