Border Trade (Text 18 С)

Border trade (also called "frontier trade" or "coastal trade") is an important form of business relations nowadays. Since very often it is done on the basis of barter or clearing transactions, it simplifiers bylateral payments settlements. Therefore there is a tendency for border trade to increase both in volume and value. And the range of products exchanged constantly diversifies, too.

On the West our main trade partners are Poland and Finland, on the East, Japan and China.

Border trade exists as a supplementing and diversifying factor in the mutual trade turnover of two bordering countries. Long-term contracts for border trade are very often concluded.

New methods and forms, in border trade appear, for example, pro duction compensation-based cooperation and mutual deliveries within these forms and provision of various services in frontier areas. Take for instance, border relations between the USSR and Finland.

Also, there is an agreement on the Danube trade between our country and Austria to develop economic ties between Ukrainian and Moldavian enterprises and Austrian firms. The agreement stipulates an increase in bilateral goods exchange through mutual deliveries of products and services on a balanced basis. Both Austria and the Soviet republics are equally interested in developing the Danube trade to the benefit of the two sides.
