I I I . Speaking

1) No wonder that young people have been

influenced by pop culture for generations.

2) Young people often have a celebrity who they

admire and use as a role model. 3) To my mind,

having a role model is quite natural because

young people need some example to imitate.

4) No matter who this person is — an actor or

an actress, a sportsman or a musician or some

other well-known person. 5) People who are

in the public eye at present always attract the

attention of young people. 6) Young people try

to imitate not only the style of clothes their cult

figure wears but they also copy his or her way

to behave. 7) To my mind, it’s good if your role

model popularizes a healthy way of living, going

in for sport, takes part in charity projects.

8) Such a cult figure is worth being imitated.

9) A lot of people still remember Princess

Diana or Lady Di as she was called for short.

10) People all over the world loved and adored

her because she helped them. 11) Lady Di visited

the most dangerous places of our world, she

did her best to help people in need and spent a

lot of money on charity. 12) Lady Di was very

popular and was called «The People’s Princess».

13) Despite her death in a car accident in 1997,

thousands of people still remember and love

her. 14) Unfortunately, celebrities don’t always

have a good reputation. 15) They are often involved

in scandals connected with alcohol and

drugs. 16) Just remember the scandals with

Britney Spears and Charlie Sheen, who were

accused of taking drugs. 17) Sometimes celebrities

behave in a rude way and offend people.

18) In my opinion, this fact doesn’t add them

popularity. 19) Thus Russian celebrity Philip

Kirkorov has a reputation of an extremely rude

person and he was even accused of an outrage

against a journalist during a press-conference.

20) As for me, I don’t want to be a famous person

because it’s really difficult to be always in

the public eye. 21) But if I were a celebrity, I

would like to travel around the world and to

take part in charity projects, for example to

help children-orphans or those who suffer from

different diseases. 22) In my opinion, this is the

best way to use your fame and your money and

to make our world better.
