SUPPLEMENTARY TEXT. CCIR AND TELEVISION

The CCIR has been paying considerable attention to studies concerned with television, over a number of years, especially in regard to:

— characteristics of systems for monochrome and colour television broadcasting;

— international exchange of television programmes and digital methods of transmitting television information;

— picture quality and the parameters affecting it;

— planning of television broadcasting networks, including receivers and antennae;

— measurement and monitoring of television signals;

— recording of video programmes;

— broadcasting-satellite service (television).

In the CCIR, the technical aspects of television broadcasting are considered by Study Group 11, which was set up at the V Plenary Assembly of the CCIR (Stockholm, 1948). The Chairman of Study Group 11 is Prof. M.I. Krivosheev (USSR), who has contributed effectively to the work of the CCIR for more than 25 years and is one of the most eminent television experts of our country.

Study Group 11 works in close co-operation with a number of other Study Groups; for example, the study of questions relating to recording of television programmes and satellites television broadcasting is carried on inclose collaboration with Study Group 10. Significant progress has been made in standardizing monochrome and colour television systems. Over a number of years, the CCIR has studied many systems of both kinds, and a careful analysis has led to the conclusion that it would be desirable to limit the number of systems to facilitate international exchanges.
