Причастие II

Причастие II имеет одну неизменную форму, соответствующую 3-й форме глагола. Причастие II имеет страдательный оттенок значения и обозначает действие, которое испытывает лицо или предмет.

Eg.: The dinner cooked by Mum was excellent.

Обед, приготовленный мамой, был отличный.

She picked up the pieces of the broken cup.

Она подняла осколки разбившейся чашки.

Функции причастия II

  1. Определение.

Переводится причастием или причастным оборотом.

Eg.: The news brought by Jane shocked us.

Новость, принесенная Джейн, поразила нас.

I saw a broken vase on the floor.

Я увидел сломанную вазу на полу.

  1. Обстоятельство.

Переводится придаточным предложением.

Eg.: If invited he will come. Если его пригласят, он придет.

Упр. 59. Определите, чем являются выделенные слова: личной формой глагола или Participle II.

1. This method invented many years ago is still used by our scientists. 2. He is a writer well known by everybody. 3. Informed about the meeting she refused to go there. 4. He is informed about the conference. 5. He used the results of the experiments in his work. 6. The story described in the newspaper is taken from a foreign magazine.

Упр. 60. Определите функцию Participle II и переведите предложения на русский язык.

1. We live in the house built 4 years ago. 2. Now I am doing a written translation. 3. The girl asked at the lesson is the best student of our group. 4. The story read by the teacher was very interesting. 5. When asked a question in English she made many mistakes in her answer. 6. When asked the way to the station she couldn’t help us.

Упр. 61. Переведите следующие словосочетания на английский язык.

Работа, сделанная дома; письмо, написанное сестрой; вопрос, заданный студенту; запланированная работа; дом, построенный в городе; иллюстрированная книга; картинка, показанная детям.

Упр. 62. Переведите предложения на русский язык, обращая внимание на разницу между Participle I и Participle II.

1. The man reading a book is the best specialist in our laboratory. 2. The book read by the teacher was about the flora of our region. 3. The man showing the diagrams is our professor. 4. The diagram shown above is very interesting. 5. Translating the text we learnt many new words. 6. The text translated by the students contained many new words. 7. I studied a book on Russian history written by a famous scientist. 8. Writing the exercise I understood the difference between Participle I and Participle II.

Упр. 63. Замените в следующих предложениях придаточные предложения фразами, содержащими Participle II, где это возможно.

1. The animals that were caught in the wood are kept in the cage. 2. There was silence in the room that was broken only by the sounds of the rain outside. 3. The melody that is being played by the band brings back all the sweet memories of my youth. 4. The cameras that are produced in Japan are of a very high quality. 5. And the answer that had so long been expected came at last. 6. The newspapers gave a report of the storm that had ruined two villages. 7. The equipment that has been ordered from abroad will be delivered by the ship. 8. The opinions that were expressed by the critics differ greatly.

Упр. 64. Замените Participle I на Participle II, где это возможно.

1. Having been asked about the incident he told everything he knew. 2. The importance of the work having been done last week is evident. 3. Having arrived at a big sea port I started to look for a job. 4. Having been found on a beach, the stone was now one of the decorations of the room. 5. Having finished the work we left the office. 6. Being finished the work caused everybody’s admiration. 7. Having been approved by all the members of the committee the bill was passed to the Senate. 8. It doesn’t often rain in this part of the country but having once begun it doesn’t stop for days. 9. Having been taken from the library the book must be returned in time. 10. Having been cooked the dinner was served in the dining-room.

(Return) home and (see) his parents worried he asked what the matter was. 16. The house (build) in our street is of a modern construction.
