CE ILLUSION Liu Bolin

(Chinese, b.1973) creates compelling works that combine Performance Art, photography, and protest Liu Bolin In his work, Liu has always given special attention to the various social problems that accompany China's rapid economic development, making social politics the crux of his pictorial commentaries. The "Hiding in the City" series has inspired similar subsequent series by Liu Bolin. In particular, "Shadow" draws on the same concept of the helplessness of the individual; however, instead of taking the individual in the face of society as its focal point, "Shadow" explores the relationship of the individual to its natural environment. Rather than painting himself into the background of various man-made structures, as he did in "Hiding in the City", here Liu lay on surfaces during periods of rain, keeping the space directly below his body dry. Exhibition SPACE A DRAWING ON 153 METRES FELICE VARINI Swiss artist who was nominated for the Marcel Duchamp Prize, known for his geometric perspective-localized paintings in rooms and other spaces, using projector-stencil techniques. According to mathematics professor and art critic Joël Koskas, "A work of Varini is an anti-Mona Lisa." OLD Op art also known as optical art, is a style of visual art that makes use of optical illusions. Op art works are abstract, with many of the better known pieces made in black and white. When the viewer looks at them, the impression is given of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibration, patterns, or alternatively, of swelling or warping. The antecedents of Op art in terms of graphic and color effects can be traced back to Neo-impressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Constructivism and Dada.Op art is perhaps more closely derived from the constructivist practices of the Bauhaus. This German school, founded by Walter Gropius, stressed the relationship of form and function within a framework of analysis and rationality. Students were taught to focus on the overall design, or entire composition, in order to present unified works. GEOMETRIC Geometric illusions are examples of how our mind attempts to find orderly representations out of sometimes ambiguous and disorderly 2d images. geometric Geometrical-optical illusions are visual illusions, also optical illusions, in which the geometrical properties of what is seen differ from those of the corresponding objects in the visual field. In studying geometry one concentrates on the position of points and on the length, orientation and curvature of lines. Geometrical-optical illusions then relate in the first instance to object characteristics as defined by geometry. This illusion probably results from the visual system trying to arrange the broken black and white stripes into nice orderly vertical bars. The illusion is especially noticeable when you focus on a single squaure. In that case, your visual system only receives information about the crookedness from your peripheral vision (a less trustworthy source of information), so it tries harder to arrange the broken lines. partners about us networks contacts
