Dormouse man page Dormouse man page

1. Synopsis

Dormouse is a simple program for sending and receiving files over the net.

2. Technologies

Dormouse has micro core architecture. Its core runs in single thread and interacts with user interface using DMPI (Dormouse Plug-ins Interface). The core uses connectionless sockets by calling recvfrom() and sendto() functions to interact with network.

3. Usage

To receive file input valid local address (or ip) and press "Receive". It's not recommended to change default port (actually Dormouse have two default ports: 0xDEAD and 0xBEAF). After receiving request Dormouse will ask to accept connection. It is also possible to discard it. Then just select place to put received file in.

To send file input valid remote address (or ip). Select file to send and press "Send" button.

4. Speed

Data transfer speed in freeware version is limited by user interface. There also some unfixed bugs in DMPI which affect on transfer speed. Depending on computer configuration and network speed can varies. For example 32Mbit/sec is normal speed when sending file from localhost to localhost on P4 3.2GHz with 512mb of single channel RAM. It also supports files bigger than 2Gb. However 4Gb is the maximum size.

5. Reliability

Dormouse was tested on small files (0 – 12 bytes) and big files (300 – 600 Mb). Default user interface indicates that file successfully sent (or received) by showing string "[done]" in "time elapsed" field.

6. About

The Edible Dormouse, or Glis glis, to give it its commonly used scientific name. It is much bigger than native Common Dormouse, more closely resembling a small squirrel. In common with these two animals it is a very good climber and spends most of its night time wanderings in the tree tops although it is not averse to entering the lofts of houses. Its climbing ability is aided by the ability to secrete a sticky secretion to improve its grip - it has even been observed climbing up glass! During the day the dormouse sleeps in tree holes or specially built nests close to the trunk. Was developed by d-evil [tmd] (d-evil.tmd@mail.ru || mice@swamp.ru).
