SUMMARY
The monograph “Mysteries of Anthrax” by Dr. Vladimir A. Gorshkov-Cantacuzene considers the Bacillus cereus complex and its representatives, which cause diseases common to humans and animals. The author focuses on B. anthracis, which not only causes a particularly dangerous infectious disease, but is also perhaps the most mysterious part of the complex. This is the second book in a series on the causative agents of particularly dangerous infectious diseases (the first is “The Opera on the Plague”). The book contains numerous illustrations and descriptions of clinical cases, so it is primarily intended for students of medical, veterinary and biological high schools for in-depth study, as well as for students of training programmes for specialists in safe work with pathogens of particularly dangerous infections. The simplicity of the presentation and the abundance of additional material will allow the reader to study the subject in depth, significantly exceeding the university curriculum.
The book contains drawings by Robert Koch, the German physician who discovered the causative agent of anthrax; notes and portraits of Louis Pasteur, Max Stern, Nikolai Nikolaevich Ginsburg and Alexander Lazarevich Tamarin, the Franklands and Ernst Berlin; and the author’s unique methods and research findings.

The book examines anthrax, a particularly dangerous disease common to humans and animals, whose causative agent, B. anthracis, is a part of the Bacillus cereus complex. The author o ers a modern perspective on the pathogen and its closest relatives, diving into a sea of information about atypical strains to pierce the veil of secrecy surrounding this world hidden from human eyes. The book contains wide range of illustrations, including drawings by Robert Koch, which have been published in Russia for the first time, as well as unique clinical cases.
Book is primarily intended for students of medical, veterinary and biological high schools for in-depth study. It may also be of interest to interns, resident doctors, young specialists and anyone interested in the amazing and dangerous world of microorganisms.
