CLASSIFICATION OF SPEECH SOUNDS
The organs of speech are capable of making many different kinds of speech sounds. From the practical point of view, speech sounds are generally divided into vowels and consonants. Vowels are sounds produced by air stream in the mouth. In producing vowels there is vibration of vocal cords. So all vowels are voiced. In English there are twenty vowels in all (See Table 1).
Consonants are sounds produced by some form of obstruction of the air passage and may be either voiced or voiceless. There are twenty-eight consonants in English (See Table 2).

5 Reasons to Go to Private School lays out some of the popular reasons why parents look at private school as an education option for their children. This list offers some other reasons why you should consider private school. Choosing a private school is kind of like buying a house or finding an apartment. There are certain basic features you must have - bedrooms, bathrooms, a dining room, etc. - when you buy a house. But what really cinches the deal are other considerations such as location, the view, the neighborhood and so on. That's what this list does. It looks behind the basic reasons why you would send your child to private school. Here are 5 more reasons why you should consider private school.
1. Individual Attention
Most parents want their children to have as much personal attention as possible. After all, you spent enormous amounts of time nurturing them when they were infants. If you can make it happen, you want them receiving as much individual attention as possible in the preschool and primary years.
2. Parental Involvement
Private schools expect parents to be actively involved in their child's education. The concept of a three way partnership is an important part of the way most private schools work. Naturally the degree of participation and involvement will probably be greater if you have a child in preschool or elementary grades than if you are the parent of a child away at boarding school.
3. Academic Issues
Most private schools do not have to teach to a test. As a result, they can afford to focus on teaching your child how to think, as opposed to teaching her what to think. That's an important concept to understand. In many public schools poor test scores can mean less money for the school, negative publicity and even the chance that a teacher could be reviewed unfavorably.
4. A Balanced Program
Ideally you want your child to have a balanced program in school. A balanced program can be defined as equal parts academics, sports and extracurricular activities. Most private schools try to achieve that kind of balanced program. In private school everybody takes part in sports. Wednesdays in many schools are a half day of formal classes and a half day of sports. At boarding schools, after classes end on Saturday mornings everybody heads out for sports.
5. Religious Teaching
Public schools have to keep religion out of the classroom. Private schools can teach religion or ignore it according to the mission and philosophy of the particular school. If you are a devout Lutheran, there are hundreds of Lutheran owned and operated schools in which your Lutheran beliefs and practices will not only be respected but they will be taught on a daily basis. The same is true of all the other religious denominations. All you have to do is find a school which meets your needs.
SENTENCE STRESS. RHYTHM AND SPEECH TEMPO.
1. Intonation. Its functions.
Much has been said about the importance of paying due attention to intonation when studying a foreign language. The process of communication cannot be performed without intonation as it has its own functions in a sentence. These functions are:
1. The constitutive
2. The distinctive
(1) Intonation forms sentences. Each sentence consists of one or more intonation groups.
An intonation group is a word or a group of words characterized by a certain intonation pattern and is generally complete from the point of view of meaning.
E. g. You’ll come early | and stay as long as you can | won’t you ||
Sentences are separated from each other by pauses. The end of a sentence is always recognized by a long pause; the end of a non-final intonation group is usually characterized by a shorter pause.
E. g. He’s passed his exam || He is a student now || Like most old people | he was fond of talking about old days ||
(2) Intonation also serves to distinguish the communicative types of sentences, the actual meaning of a sentence, the speaker’s emotions or attitudes to the contents of the sentence, to the listener or to the topic of conversation.
E. g. He’s passed his exam ||
Low-Fall - a statement of fact
High-Rise - a question
Low-Rise – a question with surprise
High-Fall – an exclamation
One and the same sentence pronounced with different intonation can express different emotions.
Intonation is also a powerful means of differentiating the functional styles.
2. The components of the intonation
1) Speech melody or the pitch.
2) Rhythm
3) tempo
№30 ЕМТИХАН БИЛЕТІ THE IMPORTANCE OF HOMEWORK AT SCHOOL.
Homework is important because it is at the intersection between home and school. It serves as a window through which you can observe your children’s education and express positive attitudes towards your children and their education. As children grow older, homework and the amount of time engaged in homework, increases in importance. For teachers and administrators, homework is a cost effective way to provide additional instruction in practice.
Homework can provide other benefits. Your child’s ability to bring an assignment home, gather and organize necessary materials to complete the assignment, return the assignment and receive a grade, strengthens his or her sense of responsibility. Time management skills are learned. There is also improved (3) development of personal skills such as time management gained by completing homework. Further, when homework proceeds smoothly it can become (4) a positive aspect of your relationship with your child.
Finally, although we often do not consider that homework serves a school administrative role, it offers schools an opportunity to let parents know what their children are learning. Thus, homework can play a public relations role by (5) keeping parents informed about class activities and policies. Homework can also fulfill (6) an administrative role in helping schools achieve their overall mission of improving student’s achievement.
4. SPEAK ABOUT THE SYSTEM OF VOWELS. Modification of vowel phonemes in speech. Explain the difference in the tongue position in pronouncing the following pairs of vowels: [ә]-[э], [ ]-[о], [i]-[и].
General Characteristics of Vowels
The quality of a vowel is known to be determined by the size, volume, and shape of
the mouth resonator, which are modified
by the movement of active speech organs, that
is the tongue and the lips. Besides, the particular quality of a vowel can depend
on a lot
of other articulatory characteristics, such as the relative
stability of the tongue, the position
of the lips, physical duration
of the segment, the force of articulation, the degree of tenseness
of speech organs. So vowel quality could be thought of as a bundle of definite articulatory
characteristics which are sometimes intricately interconnected and interdependent.
